Boston Big Dig

The Central Artery/Tunnel Project – Boston's landmark "Big Dig" — replaced an aging elevated expressway with underground tunnels, freeing up acres of prime downtown land for new parks and public green space. Commissioned by the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, the project reconnected the city with its waterfront and transformed a corridor once dominated by highway traffic into a network of walkable, tree-lined greenways. Tree Staple handled the rootball anchoring for the reclaimed surface areas, installing resilient trees and landscaping designed to thrive amid dense urban infrastructure. This helped turn one of the largest public works projects in U.S. history into a lasting green amenity for the city.
