40 Thorndike

Located in Cambridge, MA, 40 Thorndike pairs modern commercial architecture with an inviting, human-scaled public plaza. A sculptural wood-and-steel pergola anchors the outdoor space, offering shade and a gathering spot with curved built-in seating for tenants and passersby alike. Developed for Leggat McCall Properties with landscape architecture by IBI Group, an Arcadis company, the design integrates structured planting beds, mature shade trees, and layered greenery that soften the surrounding glass-and-brick facades. Tree Staple handled the planting stabilization for the project, supporting the trees and landscaping that give the plaza its lived-in, welcoming character.
